The Last Stand
This scene was created as a practice project to become proficient with Unreal Engine 5, inspired by the museum level in Serious Sam 3. My aim was not just to recreate a similar environment but to add a meaningful layer of environmental storytelling to deepen emotional impact.
- Reference & Narrative Development:
I started by collecting reference screenshots from Serious Sam 3 to capture the level’s atmosphere and pacing. Then, I wrote a short script outlining the narrative beats and emotional tone to guide the design decisions throughout the process.
- Level Design Process:
The first step was building a graybox layout, blocking out the major spatial elements and refining composition to ensure the player’s eye would be naturally drawn through the scene in a way that supports the story.
- Environmental Storytelling & Detailing:
Once the layout was solid, I added props, lighting, and environmental details carefully selected to imply the story. Signs of struggle, broken equipment, blood spatters.
- Technical & Artistic Execution:
The scene uses a mix of assets from Epic, Mixamo, Serious Sam, and original models I created, demonstrating flexibility in asset integration and custom work.
